Ak Lu’um Waldorf School was founded over thirteen years ago in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Our school is a vibrant and diverse community comprising families from many countries and socio-economic backgrounds. We offer bilingual, arts-based, ecologically sound education in a peaceful, healing environment. Ak Lu’um was the first (and for many years the only) nonprofit private school in the area, and holds as part of its mission that no child should be refused a Waldorf school education. For this reason, Ak Lu’um funds many of its low-income students with scholarships every year. Ak Lu’um is committed to ecological sustainability. The previous campus (from which we were forced to relocate in 2018) and the new campus are 100% solar-powered and utilize gray water systems and other sustainable building practices. We envision our new campus to be a center of ecologically-based, financially accessible, creative education for the region in the decades to come.

We are seeking donations to help us finish the construction of the second phase of our new eco-campus in the jungle north of Playa del Carmen, so that we can continue to provide a visionary, arts-based, spiritually grounded, ecologically committed education to our current and future students and families, as well as to the larger communities of Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya.
